Hi Tom,

I completely agree with you. But don't just stop with the postal workers, I am fed up with hearing from all whinging public sector workers complaining that their pay increases are not enough. Personally, as a self employed person, if times are tough I have to draw my belt in. I don't get help from government handouts and I certainly don't get a little letter telling how much my pay increment will be this year. When times get tough I have to, at best, leave my prices the same and front the increases in tax, fuel bills etc out of my earnings.

I think the time has come for a Thatcherite approach on the public sector. If you don't like the conditions find another job, there are thousands of others who would be glad of it.

Phew, rant over ... Bev ;-)

Well done tom, I know it hasn't always been easy but the end result does look pretty cool and is something to be proud of. You better teach me some silverstripe before you leave - something else for the handover list!

I guess the Glow library isn't well enough established yet, which is why Cufon isn't able to detect it. Good work with the fix, you should tell the BBC guys too.

You're right - Google doesn't validate, and they bytes they save are crucially important. On average, Google handles 91 million searches per day, and for their infrastructure to cope (and as mentioned on my next post, be as fast as possible to beat competition) they have to conserve as much as possible.

The difference is that Google have done this on purpose - they haven't slacked off or forgotten to validate, it's a calculated move which has a real impact on their service.

So you're definitely right that it doesn't validate - but it's for a good reason. Plus, Google pretty much rule the internets, and I'm not going to argue with them!

An example of a website not validating their code is probably the best known...google.

They say the bytes that are saved by not closing certain tags on their pages is important. I'll leave you to make up you mind on that one.
